Boerhaavia diffusa MT is used in cases of asthma; high blood pressure, dropsy, jaundice, gonorrhoea, general heart troubles and bites of venomous animals. The roots are diuretic, laxative, and expectorant in asthma. It is also used in stomach, in oedema, anaemia, ascites, anasarca, for scanty urine and for internal inflammation. Research reports support its diuretic, anti-inflammatory (like hydrocortisone) use. Reports of use in night blindness, restoration of virility, chronic peritonitis, abdominal tumor and cancer are available in the literature. A recent study indicates that punarnavine could enhance the immune response against metastatic progression of B16F-10 melanoma cells in mice.
